Job Description:

Incumbent functions as the specialist in electrical building systems maintenance, both preventive and corrective. Incumbent’s duties involve electrical engineering as practiced in the design and management of a preventive and corrective maintenance program for large, advanced state-of-the-art, office buildings. Primary electrical focus is on controls & fire protection systems.

Job Responsibilities:

• Performs studies to determine new methods of using existing or new technologies which improve building systems and provides better customer services.
• Incumbent reviews Building Quality Improvements within the buildings, ensuring that such alterations do not impair electrical reliability, lighting levels or safety regulations.
• The incumbent reviews design drawings, communicates with BQI designs and reviews contractors work during construction to insure all modifications meet NEC, NFPA, Handicap and Building codes. Also, the incumbent insures the modifications can be maintained in a safe and cost effective way.
• The unit supervisor assigns work and is available for assistance when required; however, the incumbent has wide latitude in determining the methods to be followed in completing assignments.
• Work is reviewed on a regular basis for completeness, technical accuracy and conformance to existing policy.
• When existing procedures do not apply, the incumbent may have to develop procedures using specifications for the equipment, vendor manuals, and past experience and are reviewed by the Supervisor for accuracy.
• The incumbent sets own priorities to meet established deadlines.
• Identifies required maintenance actions based on a thorough knowledge and understanding of the various systems, equipment, and components and how they operate.
• Manufacturer recommendations are used as a guide, but the incumbent must base maintenance action decisions on measurements and calculations taken in the field and prior in-depth experience.

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical engineering or comparable related engineering discipline. Experience in preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance and a wide knowledge of various mechanical and electrical components and systems.
• It is desirable to be an active member of at least one professional organization such as IEEE, Professional Engineering, ISA, ASHRAE and etc. It is desirable to be a registered professional engineer.
• Must have demonstrated proficiency in electrical engineering as evidenced by completion of Engineering Graduate Progression Plan or equivalent post engineering graduate education and experience.
