Job Description:
Criminal Investigators perform criminal investigations involving violations of federal and/or State law. The investigative process is initiated following a formal request for services or as a coordinated effort with federal, State, or local law enforcement and criminal justice agencies. Criminal Investigators utilize standard investigative and law enforcement techniques. Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
Job Responsibilities:
- Under the general direction of the Inspector General, this full-time investigator position is responsible for conducting specialized investigations regarding any complaints, grievances, allegations or reports on other matters that could impact the Nevada Department of Corrections. The investigator will conduct a through, complete, and objective investigation of all assigned complaints and/or allegations of misconduct by NDOC staff and/or inmates.
- Responsibilities include conducting investigations and examinations of alleged violations of laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; identify, contact and interview potential suspect(s), witnesses and complainants; collect data and conduct field studies; perform undercover or surveillance work regarding suspected violators; evaluate, summarize, and document investigative findings; prepare records, correspondence and reports; interact and exchange information with various state and federal law enforcement organizations; write reports to be adjudicated by the appointing authority; assist preparing cases for presentation at hearing or in court; maintain confidentiality of investigations; and perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
- A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
- Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
- A valid driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
Qualification & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in criminal justice, police science, or closely related field;
