Job Description:

The Security Supervisor performs all job assignments to support San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance’s mission and vision of saving species worldwide by uniting our expertise in wildlife care and conservation science with our dedication to inspiring passion for nature and leading the fight against extinction. The Security Supervisor oversees security personnel, evaluates security and safety programs and systems, and provides guest assistance. This position reports to Operations Manager – Security.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains work schedules for all security department team members
  • Responsible for hiring and training of new security employees
  • Develops, coordinates, and implements security/safety related drills
  • Liaises with local law enforcement, fire departments, and other first responders to cultivate and foster cooperation
  • Reviews incident reports for accuracy, thoroughness, and compliance with legal and organizational standards
  • Provides superior leadership and oversees all security operations
  • Reviews and approves department payroll
  • Identifies violations of state and federal law, and takes appropriate actions to safety resolve any violations in accordance with security policies, and state and federal laws
  • Ensures security/safety related policies, procedures and protocol are followed
  • Oversees security/safety during special events
  • Provides support and assistance to Human Resources when requested
  • Develops and conducts security/safety training for all SDZWA employees
  • Assists in the operation and maintenance of radio/computer communication equipment
  • Proactively identifies security/safety needs and ensures that any identified deficiency is addressed and resolved

Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication
  • Supervisory/Management experience in any of the above fields
  • Experience in a zoo, theme park, or related facility is desired
  • Experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field

Qualification & Experience:

  • California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) Guard Card
  • Non-Lethal Chemical Agents (OC Pepper Spray) Permit
  • First Aid
  • Adult/Child/Infant CPR with AED certification
  • Valid California driver license in good standing
