Job Description:

The Product Owner role is a servant leadership position within Research & Engineering IT, has overall responsibility to prioritize and manage team backlog, and ensure customer value is maximized for all releases. The Product Owner will be located in Spring, TX, and partners directly with stakeholders to ensure a thorough understanding of customer needs, business value, and determine the right deliverables to address them. Additionally, the Product Owner works closely with the Program/Product/Project Managers to ensure overall portfolio alignment, and splits time between working with stakeholders, and delivery team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the delivery team and Scrum Master on execution plans and priorities
  • Develop user stories and translate into developer ready PBIs, and ensure Features and User Stories meet definition of done
  • Create roadmaps based on vision in collaboration with Architects, and in accordance with business priorities, value, and cost of delay
  • Act as customer representative for the team, shield delivery team from direct work requests, provide clarity on work (Epics, Features, and User Stories) including the ‘Why’ and ‘What’, as well as acceptance criteria
  • Create and manage product backlog for multiple applications
  • Prioritize backlog (Features and Bugs) for each product as per business needs, priority, and value
  • Provide business, IT management, and delivery teams with analysis and reports on progress, health and future roadmap of products
  • Collaborate with other Program Product Owners to establish and maintain overall program prioritization and roadmap of intent

Job Requirements:

  • B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent degree in a related IT field
  • Prior work experience in software development and as a Product Owner on an Agile team, requirement gathering and conversion to Features and User Stories
  • Work with large and geographically dispersed teams
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and stakeholders
  • Prioritize effectively, negotiate, resolve and facilitate discussions; empathetically solve problems in a group setting
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in use of analytic tools to assess and improve team output
  • Strong analytical skills and critical thinking
  • Manage short deadlines, and prioritize critical incidents
  • Familiarity with software testing approaches and best practices
  • Experience with Agile work management tools, frameworks, prioritization techniques, and Agile at Scale
  • Interpret Agile Program level metrics
  • Lead without direct authority
  • Prior experience supervising or managing employees
  • Software developer experience spanning full technology stack (frontend, API, backend)
