Job Description:

The primary responsibilities for this position will include design, synthesis, purification, and analysis of organic molecules, as well as coordinating bench and performance tests in support of multiple research and development projects under the direction of a senior researcher.  Responsibilities may also include some process engineering such as synthesis scale-up and larger scale production. Candidates should have demonstrated laboratory experience in an academic or industrial setting.

Job Responsibilities:

  • The position is dynamic and requires a mix of laboratory skills depending on the project business needs.
  • Ability to work in compliance with our rigorous safety standards.
  • Working frequently on non-routine tasks of broadly outlined assignments involving a wide range of chemistries and product line applications.
  • Managing the day-to-day technical work in an organic synthesis, analytical testing, or tribology laboratory in support of research and development projects.
  • Documenting technical research in written reports and presentations
  • Perform multi-gram, bench scale organic synthesis experiments, including chemical synthesis, purification, characterization (e.g., spectroscopic techniques such as NMR, FTIR, MS, and analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC), data analysis and interpretation.
  • Communicating clearly and effectively with other chemists and engineers in the team to maximize productivity and facilitate collaboration
  • Coordinate and perform performance testing, collection of data, data analysis and interpretation, and communication of results in written reports and presentations
  • Maintaining a high degree of independence and responsibility, reliability and accountability in planning and reporting laboratory experiments.

Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interface/consult/collaborate with other chemists and with service providers outside the organization.
  • Familiarity with laboratory protocols and prudent lab practices.
  • 0-2 years of hands-on synthetic laboratory experience (academic or professional) in chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer chemistry, materials chemistry, analytical science, or other closely related physical science disciplines
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office computer software programs; computer competency to learn and utilize internal computer-based databases and programs
  • BSc in chemistry (preferred) or other laboratory-based science with relevant laboratory research experience
  • Demonstrated communication skills including preparing technical reports and presentations of scientific data.
  • Knowledge of Fuel and/or Lubricant additives
  • Demonstrated experience in research and technical competency in organic chemistry (as evidenced by papers, patents or publications), analytical techniques (such as NMR, FTIR, GC-MS), and data interpretation of these techniques.
  • Quantified experience
  • Demonstrated mechanical skills such as laboratory equipment knowledge and troubleshooting proficiency (laboratory glassware and/or larger scale units)
  • Demonstrated experience working in a team environment
