Job Description: The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), under clinical direction of a registered nurse or physician provides a basic level of general nursing care to inmates. The LVN contributes to the provision of quality nursing care through medication management, emergency response, patient education and treatments. Job Responsibilities: Documents nursing care in the patient health records, updates plans of care or PSPs, and implements physician/provider orders. Performs point-of-care testing, such as basic visual or auditory acuity tests, finger-stick glucose tests, and tuberculosis skin tests. Assists the RN, CF and care team with the development and implementation of individualized plans of care and/or Patient Service Plans (PSP). Assists in caring for patients in need of end-of-life care, urgent/emergent care, episodic care, and planned care. Obtains and documents clinical data such as vital signs, height, weight, and observations of patient behavior and health status and reports results to the appropriate health care providers. Obtains specimens for diagnostic testing in compliance with Department policies and procedures. Performs disease prevention and infection prevention and control for all patients in all settings. Serves as a patient advocate. Job Requirements: Ability to work effectively with inmates and the interdisciplinary treatment team. Ability to maintain records and prepare reports. Ability to gain the interest, respect, and cooperation of inmates. Ability to observe and document symptoms and behavior. Ability to perform nursing procedures as regulated by licensure and certification. Ability to function effectively in an emergency situation; and practice universal precautions. Qualification & Experience: Possession of a valid, active license from the State of California to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.
