Job Description: The role primarily focuses developing plans, communicating and monitoring tailings dams. The work is dynamic and fast paced, involving exposure to both Operations and Mine Technical (both the site based teams and the Calgary based teams). Job Responsibilities: Complete visual inspections of the tailings dam. Document construction and surveillance of the external tailings dam. Annual CPT and tailings pond sampling programs Annual geotechnical drilling program Dredge/barge moves Minor project support Oversee geotechnical engineering contractor to ensure timely completion of instrument readings and testing in support of the dam safety program. Engage in short-range tailings planning. Mentor junior site team staff. Site support for special projects: Support collection of as-built records for the structure (instruments, drains, etc.). Complete quality control of data related to dam construction (density, instrumentation, laboratory testing, etc.). Job Requirements: Undergraduate degree in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering Other accountabilities involve continuous improvement to current work practices and ensuring alignment across functions through appropriate change management and communication processes. As well as producing high standard technical deliverables and providing recommendations in various functions across the organization. A successful candidate will have strong communication skills and the ability to prioritize work. Must demonstrate safety leadership. Previous field experience in active mine operations is required. Must be willing to work remotely on rotation in a fly in/out operations (14 days on shift and 14 days off shift); camp provided, air travel provided from Calgary or Edmonton or bus transportation from Fort McMurray. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications Previous experience in open pit mining operations and geotechnical engineering are essential. The ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines within both Mine Technical and Mine Operations is required Minimum of 10 years of geotechnical experience is required, including but not limited to; geotechnical engineering and mine operations support.
